KUCHING, July 21: The Safe Park project at Taman Awam Miri is now complete with the installation of 26 units of closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) and five units of SOS poles, together with local recording appliances.

Miri City Council (MCC) mayor Adam Yii said the layout of such security and safety features is widely distributed around the public park to cover the parking places, playground, BBQ pit, children’s playground and food court.

“The completion and the commissioning of the Safe Park features at Taman Awam Miri is the latest effort of the council to provide security and safety features completed with application of digital technology to Miri City’s public parks soon after the successful installation of similar devices at Miri Bulatan Park and Miri City Fan.

“In fact, the effectiveness of helping the sick persons to obtain emergency medical attention has been proven in Miri Bulatan Park last year,” he said in a statement today.

Yii appealed to the general public to take ownership of public properties which include the latest installations at Taman Awam Miri.

“Mirians shall safeguard public properties and become the eyes and ears of the authorities. They are encouraged to report to Miri City Council if any attempt of vandalism to public properties has been discovered,” he added.

The ‘Safe Park’ programme is one of MCC’s 10 initiatives under Miri Smart City – Proof of Concept Programme (MSC-POC) which was officially launched by the Premier of Sarawak on April 12, 2021.

MSC-POC aims to improve the security and safety of the council’s services and facilities, enhancement of information delivery and transportation services for Miri city. — DayakDaily
