MIRI: The YB Adam Yii Siew Sang Cup Chinese Poetry Recitation Competition 2026 provided a platform for students to build self-confidence, develop their linguistic and artistic talents, and strengthen their communication skills.
Miri Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang said the experience of performing on stage and speaking before an audience was an important process in developing students’ courage and self-confidence.
He said the competition was not merely a platform to compete for awards, but also provided participants with opportunities to gain experience, exchange views and forge friendships with students from other districts.
“The most important thing gained by the participants is not just the results or awards, but the experience of performing on stage and having the courage to appear before an audience,” he said.
He said this when delivering his speech at the closing and prize presentation ceremony for the competition here on Sunday.
The inaugural competition was contested by 17 primary and secondary school teams from Miri, Marudi and Bintulu.
Adam said participation in the poetry recitation competition also provided students with opportunities to develop their linguistic and artistic talents while strengthening their interest in Chinese poetry and culture.
He said the participants’ performances demonstrated their dedication in terms of interpretation, vocal delivery and teamwork, reflecting the preparation undertaken before the competition.
He also described the courage shown by all participants in taking to the stage as an achievement in itself, as the experience could serve as a valuable learning process in their personal development.
In this regard, he encouraged the winners to continue developing their talents, while urging those who did not win to use the competition experience as motivation to improve their performance in future. -UKASnews
