Miri, September 4, 2023: The Earthwork for the Miri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant Project is targeted to begin in early September 2023, according to Miri City Council Mayor, YB Adam Yii.
This will include the site preparation activities including survey and site clearing, then followed by earthworks activities for construction to begin next year. This project is owned by PETROS Power Sdn. Bhd. a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS).
“The Miri City Council has approved the following: 1) Mobilisation of heavy machineries; 2) The installation of construction project signages; and 3) Installation of temporary traffic warning signages,” said Mayor YB Adam Yii.
The purpose of the earthworks is an essential step in preparing the ground for the Miri CCGT Power Plant, a facility designed to enhance energy production efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The earthwork project duration will take approximately 11 months to complete, and any further updates will be given accordingly. During the earthwork activities, you will expect traffic congestions, as heavy machineries and vehicle movement will increase around the project site. And there will be noise and dust within the project fenceline area.
“The public is urged to take safety precautions by adhering to the strict safety measures implemented and to respect all the safety signages, barricades and directions from the site personnel and the authorities. Please avoid the site work zone unless necessary,” he added.
Any inconveniences caused is truly regretted. The Miri City Council and the project owner’s main commitment is to ensure the safety of the residents, public, road users and the environment. We appreciate the understanding and patience of the Miri Community. With your support, we can pave the way for a greener, greater and more sustainable future for Miri City.
