MIRI:
The Miri City Council (MCC), through its Rating & Valuation Department and Parking Division, has launched an Awareness Programme for Assessment Rates and Parking Compound to facilitate payments and educate the public on the importance of fulfilling civic duties.

MCC Mayor Adam Yii said that payment booths would be set up in various shopping complexes from February to May.

“We will open booths for payment of assessment rates and parking compounds at various places in the shopping complexes in the city,” Yii said when officiating at the programme at Emart Riam here on Saturday.

The schedule for the booths is as follows: Emart Riam (Feb 3-4), Emart Tudan (Feb 24-25), Permaisuri Imperial Mall (Mar 2-3 and May 4-5), Imperial Mall (Mar 30-31 and May 25-26), and additional dates at Emart Riam (Apr 27-28 and May 11-12) and Emart Tudan (May 18-19).

“Ratepayers that make payment of their assessment rates at the Rating & Valuation counter during the programme are eligible to redeem special gifts, with terms and conditions applied.

“We want to nurture the awareness of the general public on the importance of paying the assessment rates for the development of Miri City… This rapid development can be seen in the increasing number of properties, which has risen by 2 to 3 percent annually,” he said.

Currently, the total properties in the city are 73,454, broken down into Residential (62,971), Commercial (7,748), and Industrial (2,735).
