MIRI (Aug 12): The ‘Jelajah Perpaduan Kayuhan Sihat Borneo’, which arrived from Brunei last Sunday, continued its journey yesterday from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang (KTDTHB) here to Batu Niah.

The flag-off at the college was performed by deputy mayor Councillor Ariffin Mohamad, who represented Deputy Health Minister Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

In his speech, kanisman said the event was more than just a sports or recreational activity, as it carried an important message of unity, cooperation, and healthy living – all vital in building a harmonious nation.

“Through activities such as the ‘Cakap Baik-Baik’ campaign, the programme, and initiatives with the ‘Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (Neighbourhood Watch), we aim to strengthen community bonds.

“Every stop along is an opportunity to foster closer ties and build bridges of understanding between communities,” said Lukanisman, the MP for Sibuti.

The convoy also meant to promote healthy lifestyles through activities including ‘Wellness on Wheels’, health talks, medical screenings, and distribution of personal hygiene kits.

“A healthy population is the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation,” added Lukanisman in the speech, read out by Ariffin.

The ‘Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang’ is carried out by the Information Department in conjunction with the National Month and Malaysia Day celebrations.

“I hope the Jelajah Perpaduan Kayuhan Sihat Borneo in conjunction with ANMS Miri and the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2025 will serve as an exemplary model and catalyst for more initiatives that unite the people and strengthen national identity, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as in Malaysia as a whole,” said Lukanisman.

The convoy, which kicked off on Aug 4 at Simpang Mengayau in Kudat, Sabah, will conclude in Teluk Melano in Lundu, Sarawak, this Aug 18, after having covered 28 checkpoints along a 1,868.2km route.
