MIRI (Oct 7): Nomination for the Miri City Mayor’s Award 2025 opens today, with submissions accepted both online or manual at the Miri City Council’s (MCC) office.

Mayor Adam Yii said the nomination will run for one month and will close at 5pm on Nov 7 (Friday).

He said the annual award remains one of council’s most meaningful initiatives, serving as a platform to recognise individuals and communities who have contributed significantly to Miri’s growth, development and well-being.

“The Mayor’s Award is not merely a recognition. It is a celebration of passion, dedication, and selfless service by those who have worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to make Miri a better, safer, cleaner and more vibrant city,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

Yii said the award is open to individuals, organisations, groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), companies, and private sector entities that have made notable contributions to the city’s progress.

While the award welcomes the nomination from Sarawakians, Malaysians, and expatriates, international nominees may also be considered through invitation or recommendation by MCC or relevant stakeholders.

He emphasised that all contributions must demonstrate measurable impact and align with the MCC Vision for Miri ― Green, Smart, Most Liveable International Resort City ― and, where applicable, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Nominees will be evaluated based on the criteria such as high community impact, innovation, leadership and commitment, voluntary service, sustainability, inclusiveness and harmony, as well as cultural and educational contributions and influence.

The award categories for the 2025 edition are Environment; Tourism; Safety & Security; Education; Youth, Culture, Arts, Sports & Talent; Public Health; Community Works; Media & Press, Social Media Influencer; Open Category; and Special Awards.

Yii said nominations forms can be submitted online via a Google link accesible through MCC’s official website, or through manual submission, with form downloadable from miricouncil.gov.my or available at the Public Relations Section, Miri City Hall.

Completed forms with supporting documents can be submitted via email to mcc.mayoraward@gmail.com or delivered to the Public Relations Section officer, 5th floor, Miri City Hall, Jalan Bandaraya, Marina Bay, Miri.
