MIRI Mayor’s Golf Championship Cup aligns with Miri’s vision as a green, smart, and most sustainable international resort city
MIRI, Oct 26: The 2025 Miri Mayor’s Golf Championship Cup aligns with Miri City’s vision of becoming an international green, smart, and most sustainable resort city to live in, further strengthening its position as a major sports and tourism destination in northern Sarawak.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said the tournament, now in its fourth edition, reflects the commitment of the Miri City Council (MCC) to promoting international-level sporting activities in the city.
“The main purpose of organising this championship is to promote Miri as a centre for sports activities and events.
It is in line with our aspiration to make Miri not only a tourism city but also a hub for various sporting events that can attract participants from within and outside the country,” he told TVS during the event at the Miri Golf Club (KGM) today.
This year’s event recorded 119 participants, including Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, and a delegation of counterparts from Brunei.
Adam Yii said the involvement of international participants not only enlivened the tournament but also had a positive impact on promoting Miri’s sports and tourism at the regional level.
“We hope this tournament will continue to attract more participants from outside Miri in the future, as it can bring economic benefits and strengthen Miri’s image as a sports and tourism city,” he added.
The success of organising the tournament for four consecutive years demonstrates Miri’s strong potential in hosting large-scale sporting events and reinforces its ongoing agenda to achieve the status of a smart and sustainable city.
