MIRI: A man has been taken into custody here after allegedly throwing a hard object that smashed a lamp on a passing bus, an act police say posed a clear risk to public safety.

The suspect was arrested at 2.10 pm on Dec 3 when ASP Goldy Jangan, head of the Miri police station, led officers to a hut along Jalan Pulau Melayu 2B.

Crime prevention patrol personnel from the central police station assisted in the operation.

Police seized a T-shirt and jeans believed to have been worn during the incident. The suspect is being held at the central police lock-up as investigators pursue a case under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

Police stressed they will not hesitate to act against anyone involved in vandalism or behaviour that endangers commuters.

Members of the public are urged to report suspicious activities to support crime-prevention efforts in the district.
