MIRI (Dec 3): A total of 13 members from the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) participated in a one-day visit to the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex in Kuching to gain exposure to the proceedings.
The visit, sponsored by Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii, also aimed to provide an understanding of the architectural concept of the DUN Complex, which stands as a symbol of governance and pride for the people of the state.
The delegation, led by NSJA vice president Clare Cinderella, was received by Yii and his special aide Kelvin Hii, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central vice chairman.
In addition to touring various parts of the complex, including the public gallery and observing a sitting in progress, NSJA members also paid courtesy calls on Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting.
The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The two-day visit to Kuching concluded with a dinner hosted by Yii at a restaurant there.
On the delegation’s first day, Yii also arranged a visit to the Borneo Cultures Museum.
Clare expressed appreciation to Yii for the opportunity given to NSJA, and hoped similar visits would continue in the coming years to provide exposure to NSJA members living far in the north, some of whom have never had the chance to visit the DUN.
“Besides that, we hope this visit will enhance understanding and foster good relations between the media in the north, and NSJA in general, with leaders, as well as deepen understanding of the proceedings and the responsibilities and challenges they face in carrying out their duties diligently for the people,” she said.
