Miri Mayfest blood drive draws 69

MIRI: The Miri Mayfest 2024 Blood Donation Campaign, organised by the Lions Club of Batu Niah, saw scores of people doing their bit for charity at Bintang Megamall here Saturday.

The event, which is part of the Miri Mayfest calendar celebrating Miri City Day, registered 85 participants, with 69 successfully donating blood.

 

The donation drive, which ran from 10am to 1pm, featured Mayor Adam Yii as the guest of honor and main sponsor.

Yii, who participated in the campaign at 11am, emphasised the importance of such charitable activities in fostering community health and solidarity.

He also announced that the Miri City Day celebration would officially take place on May 20, starting with a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall at 8am officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The day will culminate with a gala dinner at the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club at 6:30pm, where Dr Sim will represent Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Expressing his satisfaction with the community’s response to the blood donation drive, Yii highlighted the importance of maintaining a robust blood supply through regular donations.

“Non-governmental organisations, volunteer groups, and entrepreneurs all play a crucial role in promoting blood donation activities,” he said.

“Their contributions and sponsorships ensure the success of these initiatives, which are vital for our community’s health.”
