CTOS log prompts motorists to settle parking compounds faster

KUCHING: The Miri City Council (MCC) has registered some 300 vehicle owners who have outstanding parking compounds totalling thousands of ringgit in the CTOS Data Systems Sdn Bhd (CTOS) database.

Miri mayor Adam Yii (pic) said this was the first batch of individuals to be entered in the system under the council’s latest measure to ensure compliance with parking regulations.

“Among them, the highest unpaid amount is about RM20,000.

“One of them has settled his outstanding compounds of about RM7,000,” he was reported as saying by The Borneo Post.

Yii said the council’s action aimed to encourage vehicle owners to settle any outstanding parking fines as quickly as possible, as being registered in CTOS would affect their credit score.

He noted that having a good credit score was important in applying for bank loans or credit cards.

CTOS is Malaysia’s leading credit reporting agency, which provides credit scores and other credit risk management solutions.Yii also said many of the vehicle owners registered by MCC with CTOS had approached the council asking for discounts and were in the process of settling their outstanding payments.

However, he said MCC would not offer any discounts for now as vehicle owners previously showed little interest in settling their payments during campaigns run by the council.

“Therefore, we will not give discounts anymore. Vehicle owners have to come to MCC to work out a repayment plan,” he said.

Yii was also reported to have said that MCC’s action was targeted at individuals who had accumulated significant unpaid parking fines.

The move was also in line with the council’s commitment towards efficient parking management.“Our aim is to hold them accountable and encourage timely payment.

“By utilising the CTOS credit reporting system, we hope to deter repeated non-compliance and streamline parking administration across the city,” Yii said.
