MIRI (March 4): The Miri City Council (MCC) yesterday commenced clean-up operations at an illegal dumping hotspot in Jalan Sukma.
In a notice posted on its Facebook page, the council said it has also established a team to monitor illegal dumping activities in known locations across the city.
“Any individual caught will be fined,” it said.
Photos posted on the page showed a backhoe loader being used to clear the area of garbage.
MCC also called on the public to cooperate by disposing of bulky garbage in roll-on roll-off (RoRo) bins provided by the council.
“For industrial waste, it should be disposed of directly at the Kuala Baram landfill,” it added.
On Feb 28, MCC conducted similar garbage clean-ups at the Permyjaya shop house, Desa Indah 3, Jalan Permaisuri 4, and the SMK Merbau U-turn in Permyjaya.
It also announced the closure of two bin centres—in front of Open University Malaysia (OUM) Miri and Morsjaya commercial centre—due to the facilities being misused.
